Did this picture scare anybody else? As a child I was always worried about biting into a worm every time I ate an apple. To this day, I check my apples 3 times over for holes. If there is even the tiniest hole in an apple there is no way I am eating that apple!

Reverse Bucket List
Have you ever done a reverse bucket list? It is my birthday today and I started thinking of all the things that I've already done. I don't really have a bucket list, so I decided to d a reverse bucket list. After all, I am Dyslexic.
Things that should be on a Bucket List, but I already took care of that:
1. I've swam with Dolphins...kissed, hugged and danced with them. A magical experience
2. I got my black belt...4 of them
3. I've owned my own business...not fun
4. Been to Jamaica, and I will not go back ever again
5. I have a Master's Degree...and 3 credits plus a thesis short of a second one
6. I competed at the US Open Karate...3rd is sparing up 2 weight classes (those were some big girls!)
7. Lived in Florida (a dream from my childhood)
8. Went Paddle Boarding...no fun on the bad back
9. Went to a Miami Dolphin's Game in Miami (and they won)...another childhood dream
10. Went to a Bon Jovi Concert...Best concert ever!
11. Went to an Aerosmith concert
12. Been to NYC
13. Been to Vegas
14. Been to the Bahamas...too many times
15. Been to Mexico
16. Was one of Murfreesboro's Most Beautiful People...that was fun
17. Been To Disney World and Disney Land
18. Been to Universal Orlando and Hollywood
19. I have kids...a lot of them. Okay, just 3, but that seems like a lot.
20. I wrote a play that was performed in front of an audience
21. I have 3 tattoos
22. Been to Busch Gardens Tampa
23. Been to Mammoth Cave, and I want to go back
24. I hold several state championships in several different states in a couple of different organizations for Taekwondo.
25. I hold several National Championships for Taekwondo
26. I've done Trapeze...that was scary!
27. I can't count the number of 5K races I have done, won, and beat PRs
28. I was a lifeguard
29. I've been snorkeling in the Caribbean
30. I've been to SeaWorld Orlando
31. Went to a Darius Rucker Concert...he was entertaining
32. Met Tom Arnold
33. Got married, have stayed that way for over 15 years
34. Been Baptized
35. I've been to numerous Pro-hockey games
36. I've been to Titan's games
37. I've been in a bar fight...with a certain pro-baseball player
38. Got Scuba certified...but then never went diving after certification
...this list could keep going.
I suggest doing a Reverse Bucket List. It is more fun than a Bucket List.

Reading
I should retitle this because I don't actually read books, I tend to devour them. It is an addicting habit for me. I love books.
I will read just about any genre (not horror or anime) preferring anything with some humor. I enjoy stories. My favorite of all time is Memoirs of a Geisha. I don't know why I love it so much, but it has been my favorite since I was about 19. My favorite author, though, is Sophia Kinsella (think Confessions of a Shopaholic). She makes me laugh with her British humor.
I have over 200 books on my Nook account, but I prefer the real thing. I love the smell of books! I love the feel of turning a page and the ability to share real books with friends. The problem with real books is space. When we moved to Tempe this past summer I donated over half of my library. It was sad, but I intend to replace the books with new titles.
I just don't know what to read next, though. What are your favorite books?

Best Taekwondo Instructor
I've been pondering my martial-arts career lately (yeah, I'm missing it), and was just thinking back to all of the instructors I've had over the 21 years that I've trained.
I've had some pretty good ones, lots of them that I consider life long friends. Most of them were my heroes at some point, but only a few of them remained heroes. These men, and a few women, held a special place in my heart. They not only helped me to become a better martial-artist, but they made me feel like I was a better person.
But there is one instructor that stands out the most to me. I admire him so much in and out of the dojang. He has a heart of gold and he is such a good person. Master Scott Wisneski is probably one of the best people I know. Not only as a martial-artist, but as a person.
As a martial-artist he is pretty bad-ass. For a short white guy, he can do amazing jump kicks and he has no problem joining his students in class to show off. I've watched him do some amazing breaks, kicks, and poomse/forms. Most of all, he can kick my butt in a sparing match.
As an instructor, he is like a dad or big brother to all of his students. He makes each student feel important, even if they have zero talent in Taekwondo. Most of all, he knows his stuff. I've never seen an instructor that knows forms backwards and forwards like Master Scott does. For me, though, I appreciate that he is both fun and traditional. I never went to a class without both laughing and learning.
FMAC
As a person he is incredible. He is giving, open, and super nice. His marriage to Elizabeth Wisneski is inspirational. They are the best of friends and experience life together. He is so much fun to just hang out with. Even my kids adore him. Not to mention, he has the best dogs ever.

Tempe and Tampa
After living in Tempe, Arizona for about a month I've found the differences between the two towns.

1. One has only E's as a vowel, the other has only A's as a vowel
DUH
A E
2. One has lightening storms, the other has dust storms

3. One has beaches near by, the other has mountains nearby

4. One has not enough humidity, the other has too much humidity

5. One is surrounded by theme Parks, the other unfortunately has no theme parks

Otherwise, there isn't much difference

Big Government = Big Problems
Republican or Democrat, Big Government is nothing but big problems. By Big Government, I mean that the Federal government has too much power. This is a problem because it means more government spending, which means more taxes. It also means that bureaucrats stick their noses in things making life more difficult.
It seems like with each new president, the government grows and so does its spending. The bigger it gets, the more it reaches into our pockets to support itself. The Big Government takes what we earn to run programs that we may not want and definitely what we do not need. The Government continues to take our rights to spend our own money how we want.
Instead of focusing on protecting citizens from outside threat, instead of protecting citizens' freedoms and rights, the government is taking tax money to limit our rights. Agencies such as the FDA, Welfare Programs, and sending money to foreign aid steals causes taxes to rise. This is how the Government steals our money and uses it for things the Government should not be focused on.
The Government does not need to run the Postal Service. This could be privatized. There are tons of these programs that could be run by private citizens. Tax money should not pay for welfare programs. Instead, non-profit or private agencies can raise money to help people in need.
Besides spending money like crazy, Big Government wastes time and energy on efforts they do not need to be involved in. Big example is Gay Marriage. People should be able to marry whomever they want as long as it is a consenting relationship between two adults. The Federal Government should be focused on the basic protection of our rights and freedoms, and not focused on if Betty can marry Jennifer.
The agencies that see over medicine and food are my least favorite Big Government agencies at the time. Monsanto...look it up...google it. I'm not going into this monstrous Evil. I will discuss, however, how Big Government uses its agencies to stick its giant nose into my problems, limits my freedoms, and makes my life miserable.
The Government does not need to be concerned with what types of surgery I want. Peyton Manning left the country to have surgery on his neck, but not all of us have the means to travel abroad and pay cash for surgery. I've heard of at least 3 procedures that could help my back pain. None of them are approved by the FDA, therefore they are not available to me.
I know people who could benefit from the use of Marijuana. It is not the Government's job to babysit us. If somebody wants to take the risk of using medicine or drugs, it should be their right! Sure, enforce driving under the influence. That protects other citizens. Other than that, it shouldn't be a Federal Government concern.
The Bigger the Government the less freedoms we have as citizens. The Federal Government needs to stop growing, and it needs to start shrinking!

Feather Halloween Wreath
This is a little late, but wanted to share:
I made this wreath one day that I was feeling creative the week before Halloween.
I just hot glued black feathers from the craft store onto a wire floral wreath frame. Then I hot glued some wiggly eyes on. Pretty simple!
I used hot glue because it was what I had and I know how to use it. No special reason. I did learn through this process why being tarred and feathered was such an awful punishment. I had feather bits stuck all over me.

Skeleton Wreath
So I got creative, sorta
I bought a couple of plastic skeletons from the dollar store, broke them apart and turned them into a wreath.
After breaking apart the skeletons, I simply rearranged the parts to create a circle. Then I used hot glue to stick the parts together.
I used a wire hanger from the dry cleaners to hang the wreath. I just hot glued the skeleton bits to a hanger that I rounded out in the shape of my wreath.
The project cost me $2!

A New Vision
Sooooo...there have been a couple things I've realized I need to change about me, or at least change my perception on.
1. I've done 20 years of Taekwondo mixed with some kickboxing, Hapkido, Karate and extreme martial-arts. I'm thinking that I need to tick that off the ol' bucket list. This is probably the hardest and most painful choice I have made. I have realized that I'm going to have to stop seeing myself as an injured martial-artist. It is making me depressed thinking about being a martial-artist who can no longer perform. Instead, I've decided that I'm just not going to think of myself as a martial-artist any longer. Time to hang up the belt and say that I've been there and done that. I will still throw some punches and kicks when I can, but my training days are over. Time to focus on something I CAN do.
2. Since April I have been trying to slim down. I've been using the number on the scale to determine my success. The problem that I have is that I LOVE to eat, but I HATE cardiovascular workouts. Being that I am very goal oriented, I have been stressing and upset that I can not reach my goal weight. Even while I was good about eating right and exercising, I never dropped those last 10 pounds. I stopped lifting weights as much as I used to thinking that it would help with my back, and that muscle weighs more than fat. The result was just a soft, squishy version of myself. I am NOT a skinny chick. It's time to hit the weights again. I'm putting on muscle now, and I feel much better. Now I have to find some clothes that fit.
3. I remember having the biggest crush on my uncle when I was about 5 years old. Don't worry, he's an uncle by marriage. Anyway, Uncle Danny is a farmer. My favorite vacations were spent on his farm. Not just because my Aunt and Uncle were some cool people, but the animals and being outside were always so much fun. I also remember that whenever people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always answered that I wanted to be a farmer. Time passed, and when you grow up in the city, the idea of being a farmer isn't something that occurs to you.
Now that I've been propagating plants and growing stuff, I really enjoy creating gardens and more plants. I suck at growing vegetables, but other plants and trees I love. I don't think that I could have a whole farm, per se, but having my own tiny farm in my backyard is something I should focus on...for fun. It will be a nice release and escape for me to grow things. I also love animals. I want to find a way to either breed puppies, dog sit, or work for a vet.
So those are the 3 things I am changing my views on. It's time to do things that I can do and that make me happy.

Scrapbooking
In my quest to find a creative outlet I gave scrapbooking a go around. Um, that was a big, expensive mistake.
First, I have no artistic creativity, so my layouts pretty much sucked.
Second, I am not able to draw or cut a straight line to save my life. I used straight edges, rulers, and all sorts of cutting equipment. Somehow, all my cuts were crooked. I tell people that I was being creative and wanted rhombuses and curvy sides, and not plain old squares or rectangles.
Third, I got annoyed that there were so few pictures on each page.
I ruined so many pictures and lots of paper trying to scrapbook. I wasted money and time to create some ugly craziness. In the end, I gave up and just started sticking as many pictures as I could fit onto one page. That actually turned out better than some of the "fancy" pages that I tried.
In the end, I learned that I will just stick to photo albums. I still envy all of you that can scrapbook really well, but I'll leave that to y'all!

Facet Nerve Block
Last Friday I had a Facet Nerve Block to help with my back pain. This was another injection into the joint spaces in my spine. My pain management doctor does this under general anesthesia. The hardest part of the procedure for me is the IV for the anesthesia medicine. I hate needles!
This was my 5th injection. I've had several different types of injections, but until this last one the injections have all been in my Lumbar spine. Usually it is L4, L5 and even S1. This time, however, the doctor decided to try a higher spot. They did the injection at the bottom of the Thoracic area.
For the first time I felt immediate relief! The pain was not 100% gone, but the pain area was lessened. Normally I wake up from the injections feeling the same as before, so this is a very positive thing. But as the local anesthesia wore off I was in a lot of pain! Different pain, though. Sore and throbbing pain. But with some ice, heat and rest that all went away.
Today I was back in the gym. I still have extreme pain in the lower back, but it seemed to be concentrated to that one area. Bending over still hurts, but I feel more mobile today.
This makes me feel like this new pain doctor is onto something! Fingers are definetly crossed!!!!

Is Religion Evil?
Before you get your panties in a wad, I don't mean this as an insult or an attack on any particular religion. I am not saying that if you are religious that you are evil. I am talking about the big picture. These are just my thoughts, and if you would like to share your thoughts, please do so.
Let me start by saying that I am spiritual, I am not an atheist, but I question churches, temples, mosques...I dislike organized religion. I am not going to get into my particular beliefs this time, though.
In my experience, both personal and educational, I have seen religions of all sorts do a lot of judging and causing a lot of hate. I know, I sound like I am judging here, but I am not trying to. I am just telling you what I have experienced. I don't care what you believe in, as long as you are a moral and nice person.
Back to religion causing hate, I am reminded that many religions have killed or condemned because others had different beliefs. There is the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) and the Christian Crusades. There are the Nazis and the Muslims that have committed hate crimes and started wars against the Jews. Now I know a lot of the Israeli wars has more to do with land than religion, but there is still hate based on what each of them believe.
Christians are great about hating other Christians. It is the reason that I am not fond of organized religion. Historically, Catholics and non-catholics have fought each other. Even today I hear Baptists and other Protestants say that Catholics are not really Christians. This really really bugs me. HELLO! The whole Catholic religion is based on Jesus! DUH!
But it's not all Catholic versus non-Catholic. Many of the colonist who came to America were trying to escape the condemnation of the churches in Europe. Whether they were escaping Catholic churches, tyrannical theocratic kings, or just wanting to start their own churches, they were trying to escape other Christians telling them they were doing it wrong.
I have personally experienced religious prosecution while I was growing up. I went to Methodist churches growing up. While I believed that I worshiped the same God and the same Jesus as the Baptists in my small town, I was often told I was going to hell by the Baptists. I remember being pulled out of my private Baptist school when I came home and told my parents that I learned they were going to hell because they did not go to the Baptist church. Later I lost friends when their parents found out I did not attend a Baptist church. Those friends were no longer allowed to play with me.
But Christian's are not the only religion that fights among itself. The Muslims are always fighting (often in a more deadlier way) about who is worshiping right. Sunni and Shia Muslims originally fought over political rights (who should be able to rule based on the descendants of Muhammed), but the differences eventually turned religious as well.
In a smaller perspective, I look at the United States. It was founded on religious freedom and separation of church and state. Our forefathers saw what churches and theocracies could do to a nation, and they didn't want to repeat it. Yet it seems that some Christians really want to have religion be a part of government...as long as it is their religion. There are Christians who believe gays are wrong to be gay, and so gay marriage should be banned. Okay, fine, believe what you want, but it should NOT be a part of our government. Same goes for abortion, it's a personal thing, not a government thing. Keep church and state separated like it should be. Another favorite is when certain Christians want religion in public schools, yet when other religions want to express their beliefs at school, it is wrong. This is why we need to keep anything government controlled separated from religion.
I personally think that you should have spiritual beliefs, and if that leads you to an organized religion GREAT. I am not saying ALL people who go to church or other places of worship are evil. I am just saying that it seems to me organized religion causes a lot of bad.

Rest is NOT Always the Answer
Whenever you are injured the first piece of advice given is RICE, which means Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevate. With my back injury I've been told that maybe I need to Rest a little more. People say I am too active and that I cannot heal because I never Rest my back.
When you hurt your ankle, you can exercise or move around and still rest your ankle. Same is true with your shoulder, knee, and most other body parts. But when you hurt your back, it is hard to rest because you always use your back. I'm not talking a slight strain where you rest a couple days and then you feel better. I am talking about full out, chronic, crippling back pain. Hit by a bus pain!
I've taken breaks from martial-arts, aerobics, running, and heavy weightlifting, but the back pain never left. I still exercised, though, because I did not want to completely weaken my back and have even more issues. I've learned that exercise helps to strengthen injuries so it doesn't hurt more. For example, I am careful about lifting weights in order to strengthen all sides of my knee so that my knee cap does not wander off more than it already does.
After my hysterectomy I was forced to rest in order to heal from the surgery. I took 4 weeks off of exercise and most activity, and my back pain has worsened. I am depressed and my self-esteem have taken a blow because of the lack of exercise. So not only is the cause of the pain making me hurt, my emotions are causing me extra pain.
Exercise does more than make me look good and make me a better athlete. Exercise and endorphins from exercise makes me a happier person, which automatically make me feel better. Most people drink coffee to start their day. I exercise. When I don't exercise in the morning, I feel crummy all day. I am sluggish and depressed when I don't exercise.
The past four weeks were rough because not only was I bored and going crazy not getting out, but I was not getting my daily dose of exercise. Plus, I was getting weaker and less athletic. To make matters worse, my back pain was not getting better. I was not benefiting from the rest at all.
I started to exercise again this week. I am not doing martial-arts or hardcore training, but I am going to the gym to do strength and cardio. Now that I am exercising, my back still hurts, but at least the rest of me feels better.

My oldest dog Titan
If you have a dog and I see it, chances are I am going to ignore you at some point. I will be on the floor with your dog or having a conversation with your dog. I am not a physically affectionate person, but when it comes to dogs I am all over them. I'm still trying to figure out how to become a professional dog petter.
Dogs are easier than people. They are happier, less judging, and for the most part friendlier. I have lived on my street for a little over a year now. I know the first name of one adult on my street, but I know Barkeley, Cuddles, Brownie, Oliver, Izzy, Cooper, and Precious. Yeah...
My furry Lakeland friends
I got my first puppy when I was about 11. I finally convinced my parents that I would take care of one. Her name was Pepper, and she was an awesome mutt! She made me laugh about everyday, and when I came home from those miserable days in middle school, she was the one to make me feel better.

My youngest dog Phin
I could never have too many puppies. I plan to be the crazy old dog lady instead of the crazy cat lady. But until I get rid of some human children or inherit a farm, I'm just going to have to stick with my two. I don't think my husband would give me a choice on that anyway.

Making Boxes
After being inspired and encouraged by my friend Patty to be more crafty, I decided to try sewing yet another box.
It is a cover for a power strip in the living room. The initials are my kids' first names. The holes are supposed to be different sizes because plugs come in different sizes. Other than that, it is what it is.
I am not even close to being as crafty as Patty. She is pretty amazing...check out some of her creations: www.etsy.com/shop/CuteCanvasCreations
I love the outcome of sewing. Making and creating something feels awesome, but the process drove me crazy. Sewing on the canvas was too repetitive. I did not like doing the same thing over and over and over again.
So I'm off to find another craft I can do.

I Made A Box
This has possibly been the longest 2 weeks ever! I'm not good about being inactive, but I have no choice as I recover from surgery.
Last week I made a box with those canvas sewing craft things and yarn. I had no idea what I was doing, but it turned out okay.

My laptop fits in it and it is a perfect way to keep my computer stored while it's not in use. I wouldn't use it as a carrying case, but it is pretty sturdy.

School Uniforms Suck
Growing up I always wished we had school uniforms at my school. I did not have the money for the latest fashions, and I thought wearing uniforms meant it wouldn't matter if I had less money than everybody else. But I was totally wrong. My kids have uniforms at their school, and the uniforms are tagged and branded. Kids still want uniforms from certain stores...those stores with the highest price tags are, of course, the ones they want the most.
Schools down in Tampa argue that uniforms are a good policy because they are cost effective, help kids focus on school work, and give unity/school spirit to the students. I disagree on all of these arguments.
Uniforms are costly! I am a bargain hunter, and I know I can get a very nice shirt at TJ Maxx or Old Navy for my kids for less than I can any polo. The schools sell the polo's from $12-15, and most stores have them for $9-25. I, however, can get new kid's shirts for $4-7. When you have 3 kids needing at least 4 shirts each, that extra $2 or more adds up.
Khaki pants are always more expensive than jeans or non-khaki shorts. Plus, jeans and casual shorts can be worn on weekends and evenings more easily than uniform khakis. So I would save money by not needing 2 wardrobes for the kids.
School uniforms do not help take attention away from wardrobes and put it on school work. The students still compare shoes, hair, jewelry, manicures, and even socks. My kids complain they don't have nice enough pencils! Not to mention, the students pay attention to the labels, style, and cut of uniforms. Who looks best in their uniforms. Dress codes are all that is needed, not uniforms. Go ahead and put length requirements on shorts, don't allow sleeveless or midsection baring tops.
Maybe there is some unity given by every kid wearing the same color everyday. My daughter thinks it's boring, and I don't blame her. Plus, the unity does not necessarily give the kids school spirit. I think having sports teams, clubs, and community groups help to build spirit and school pride. I don't think the kids care about wearing school colors to go learn. They would probably enjoy cheering on their teams, and working together. Pride works better than uniforms for uniting students.
I think I hate school uniforms more than my kids hate them! Faith would rather wear glittery pink clothes. She's got a style of her own, and I think it's fun to see her express it. Christian and Cross like t-shirts that show their favorite teams or express their personalities. Imagine if you had to wear the same color and styles of clothes everyday! Some people are great at it, like military personnel, but not all of us are military material!

World's Best Mom
I am not the type of mom you will see volunteering as "Homeroom Mom" or "Team Mom." I will not stalk my children at school as the PTA president, nor will I follow them at every single field trip. I'm just not that type of mom. Honestly, I need my space and I think my kids need their's as well.
I always felt like a bad mom because I'm not that "involved in every aspect of my kid's life" kind of mom. You will, however, find me in the bleachers cheering them on. I am their biggest fan whether it is at sports, school, or just hanging out being silly. I am not overly protective, but if somebody makes my kids cry, the claws will come out. I'm not a physically affectionate person, but I love a good cuddle with my kids (as long as they are sitting still, which is rare).
So this past week has been really rough on me. Being in the hospital and out of commission has caused me to miss a lot of the things that I AM there for. I missed my kids' first wresting match, I didn't get to meet their teachers at the open house, and I didn't get to take them to school on their first day. These are the things I am usually there for. It has made me realize that the best mom's are not necessarily the one's that are there for everything, sometimes they are the ones that are there for what is important.
If my kids cry, I tell them to suck it up and get up. But when they are having a bad day, overly tired, or really hurt I am there to kiss boo boos. I am there to tell them it's okay. I may be too tough on them sometimes, but I think that's what they expect from me. Heck, my kids would eat me alive if I gave into every single tear.
One of the worse parents are those that tell their kids they are the best, even if they are not. Like those parents that tell their kids to try out for American Idol, even thought their kid can not sing at all. I'm not going to puff up my kids' egos, I am going to cheer for them and help them to be the best they can be. I don't care if they are the best, but I am going to teach them to try.All moms are different. This week I learned which ones are the best. I learned I am the world's best mom...at least for my kids.

Chiropractors
Since I injured my back more than 4 years ago, I have seen so many types of doctors. None of them seem to know how to fix the problem. Surgery worked for about 4 months, and now I am right back to where I was before the surgery.
One of the types of treatment I have tried was chiropractic. The biggest problem I have with chiropractors is that they don't seem to want to fix the problem. They are like salesman! I don't trust that they really want me to feel better. They want me on long term plans where I am in the office several times a week. That is freaking expensive! Even if I have insurance to cover it, $15-$20 co-pay several times a week adds up. Plus, finding time to go is a pain in the butt when you have 3 kids and a ton of errands.
Besides the fact that they want you for life, I am scared for my health when I go to chiropractors. I know it's silly, but when they are adjusting my neck and my knees, it scares me to death. And it's gross, ick! Can't you kill somebody by snapping their neck? I just don't like it.
Still, even if I wasn't a weak stomached wimp, I have issues! The first chiropractor I saw for my back problem gave me a bone spur in the middle of my spine, and did not help my lower back at all. After I had been seeing the chiropractor for about 2 months twice a week, during one adjustment it hurt really bad. He told me that sometimes it does hurt, but I had never felt it hurt that bad before. I could barely move for days after that adjustment. I never returned to that chiropractor. A couple years later I found out I had a bone spur from that adjustment.
After a year of searching for other types of relief for the pain I saw different chiropractor. Yes I got the same sales pitch as all the other chiropractors, but I thought maybe he could help. He never hurt me during an adjustment, but I got migraines after every time I went. I told him about it, but he said that it must be something else causing the headaches, not his treatment. The headaches continued and so did my low back pain. When I stopped going for adjustments the headaches stopped.
Two years later I am considering trying a third chiropractor. I don't know if I should or not. I don't trust them, but I really want to be out of pain. Has anybody ever had successful results?

Book and Cardio
Today I got to workout a little bit longer than I have in the past couple of days. I did 25 minutes on the Stairmill and 25 minutes on the Eliptical.
The only way I am able to do this much cardio is to bring a book. I get so bored doing cardio, especially on cardio machines. I'm not into tv shows, so watching tv on the machines never worked for me. I usually have a book or my nook when I head to the gym for cardio.
I also did some light arms on the cables. Just enough to wake up the muscles, but not enough to hurt my back. I ended with about 5 minutes of crunches.
